Wreck It Ralph Breaks The Internet Is Changing Tianas Appearance After Backlash

The upcoming sequel to 2012's Wreck-It-Ralph will move from the nostalgia of arcade games to the complexity of the worldwide web. But since the exciting announcement that the animated film would include a massive crossover with Vanellope and all the official Disney Princesses, the studio has faced one reality of the internet: social media backlash. Over the summer, when part of the scene from Ralph Breaks the Internet was released, Princess Tiana's differing appearance than that of in The Princess in the Frog angered fans. Disney's oly black princess was featured with lighter skin and a narrower nose than Tiana has been previously been seen in her 2009 film. A mere two months before the release of the sequel, Disney is finishing revisions to the character to more credibly depict the Disney princess.

According to a report from Wall Street Journal, Disney Animation has been hard at work on revisions of Princess Tiana's appearance for the scene. The studio sought feedback from voice actress of Tiana, Anika Noni Rose, along with advocacy organization, Color of Change to more accurately depict the Disney character. Color of Change, which focuses on issues of racial representation and political inequality in media, worked directly with Disney in Burbank, CA to review the revised artwork of Tiana-- described as now having darker hair and skin, a wider nose and full lips. The organization released a statement commending Disney for deciding to take the time to change Tiana's features following the backlash.

During a 2017 panel at the D23 Expo, the studio announced that the beloved Disney princesses would be seen hanging out in one room alongside Vanellope. The scene will feature the original voices of most of the princesses, including Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Jodi Benson as Ariel. The scene will likely be brief, but it certainly creates added excitement for Ralph Breaks the Internet for hardcore Disney fans especially. The film will also feature other sectors belonging to Disney's properties, since Stormtroopers were spotted in the film's released footage. It will also tackle the many other corners of the internet, including some dismal ones as well.

Disney has been no stranger to making expensive decisions due to controversies on social media recently. The company decided to cancel the new ABC television show, Roseanne, after the network star took to Twitter, posting insensitive comments, along with firing Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn for past tweets that gained attention of the internet. The company has dealt with press related to representation regarding animated character's ethnicities and sexual orientations previously, as well. Tiana's revised appearance can be seen when Ralph Breaks the Internet hits theaters on November 21.

DCs Shazam Trailer Is Exciting And Hilarious

Shazam, previously known as Captain Marvel, has been around since the Golden Age of Comics; at one point, he was arguably more popular than Superman! Now, after decades of appearances on the printed page, TV shows and video games, the World's Mightiest Mortal is finally making his live action theatrical debut next year, and straight out of San Diego Comic-Con, the first Shazam! trailer has arrived. Take a look, below!

Inspired by Shazam's New 52 origin story, Shazam! sees Billy Batson (Asher Angel) joining a foster family, as his parents died when he was five. Among the members of this family are Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), who looks like he'll be one of the main sources of comedic relief in the movie. But more importantly, this preview shows us Billy taking the first steps on his superhero journey, as what he believed would be a normal subway ride turns instead brings him before the mysterious Wizard. Upon saying the Wzard's name (you guessed it, it's Shazam), Billy is transformed into a mighty, costumed adult (Zachary Levi) with a wide variety of superpowers. That's where things take a more amusing turn.

Even though it's set in the DC Extended Universe, Shazam! definitely feels much different than its predecessors. Upon finding Freddy and convincing him who he is, the Shazam-ified Billy starts testing out his powers with Freddy's help. Super strength is relatively easy to use, but he still needs to get the hang of flight and conjuring electricity. Still, being a superhero is a dream many kids have, so for Billy, this is the ultimate wish fulfillment. He gets to beat up common criminals and enjoy snacks afterwards!

But as is the case with every superhero movie, eventually a super villain comes in. Originally the plan was for Shazam to fight Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) in his first movie, but the Kahndaqian anti-hero's introduction is now being saved for his own movie. Instead, Shazam will clash with Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), who is usually depicted in the comics as being extremely intelligent, but physically weak. Not so in Shazam!, because as this trailer shows, the DCEU's Sivana can easily catch one of our intrepid hero's punches. It looks like Sivana will be also be a physical threat, and if that eye of his is any indication, like his New 52 counterpart, he's also capable of seeing magic. So yeah, being a superhero won't be quite as easy as Billy initially assumed.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! will works its magic in theaters on April 5, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates about the movie. A League Of Their Own Director Penny Marshall Is Dead At 75

Penny Marshall was a good actress, a great director and one of a kind personality. She took chances. She fought for what she believed in, and she did it all with a great sense of humor. The legendary Hollywood personality passed away this week at the age of 75, survived by generations of admirers who connected with her work.

Penny Marshall moved to Los Angeles in the late 1960s, following in the footsteps of her brother Garry who would later go on to make Pretty Woman and a bunch of other great movies. At the time, he was a writer on The Dick Van Dyke Show. He helped point her in the right direction, which eventually led to commercials, bit parts of TV shows and finally, Laverne & Shirley. She credited her brother with launching her career, but it was her natural talent as a director that progressed her into the upper echelon of Hollywood power brokers.

She was hired as a last minute replacement for the film Jumpin' Jack Flash in 1986. Two years later, she directed Tom Hanks in Big. It was the first movie ever directed by a woman to make $100M at the box office. She hit the milestone again in 1992 with A League Of Their Own.

To me, Penny Marshall will always be the director of A League Of Their Own, one of my favorite movies ever made. To others, however, she'll always be Laverne from Laverne & Shirley. Or Myra from The Odd Couple. Or the director of Big. Or the director of Awakenings. Or the producer of Cinderella Man. Or one of a bunch of other hats she wore during her fifty year career in Hollywood. That's the sign of a great career and a diverse one that takes chances and produces work that really matters to people.

During her career, Penny Marshall was also involved in several much-discussed romances. During her early days on Laverne & Shirley, she was married to actor and director Rob Reiner. As he was a regular on All In The Family, the two could often note they were key players on the two most popular sitcoms in the country. Following their divorce, she also had a relationship with popular singer Art Garfunkel. Her first marriage also produced one daughter, Tracy, who was later adopted by Rob Reiner. She appeared in many of her mother's projects, most notably as Betty in A League Of Their Own.

When Marshall was at her best, she was able to strike a great balance between comedy and genuine heart. Her better movies will continue to be watched and loved for decades to come. Our thoughts go out to her family during this difficult time.
